The rumors had been drifting around for month, but in June 2015 Nikka finally officially announced, that they where discontinuing their entire age statement single malt line up, for both Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Nikka was forced into making this radical decision, because of their stock shortage. When the news hit the streets, whisky drinkers from all over the world, raided the whisky stores, buying all the discontinued bottles faster than a speeding bullet  and the few bottles that remains today, are being sold for insane amounts of money. Unnamed sources from inside Nikka are claiming that, it is likely that the age statement line, will be brought back around 2020 – 2021. I remember the absolutely amazing Japanese whisky-site Nonjatta, calling this the terminal aunt syndrome. Kind of like the aunt you never really visit until she is terminally ill.

Nose: A bit cloudy and closed, with fruity sweet notes of mandarin, grapefruit and vanilla.

Taste: Candy sweet at first, then a delicious note of light smoke steps into the picture, followed by black pepper, citrus and just the right amount of wood

Aftertaste: Medium long and warming with sweet malt, marshmallow and apricot.
